BioFocus DPI has developed and validated a number of high-throughput, human primary cell models of diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, asthma and type-II diabetes that are ideal for nutraceutical compound discovery.   In each of these models, molecular pathways that are central to the disease pathology are directly assayed and therefore compounds that target these pathways can be rapidly identified in high throughput screens. As the assays are performed in human primary cells (cells that mimic the human in vivo disease pathology more accurately than cell lines or animal cells), nutraceutical compounds identified through screening in these disease models are more likely to translate to true modulators of the disease pathway in vivo.
